Ohio construction work is regulated, general contractors may need to be licensed at the local level. Please use the county link on this page to see the specific requirements for your county, including compliance guidelines for liability insurance. Contractors should also contact the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation for information needed to obtain workers' compensation, you can also reach them by phone at 1-800-644-6292.  General license requirements for Ohio include providing documentation of two years experience, passing a business law and trade exam, and an annual renewal fee of $40. The average time to process your application is six weeks. Every contractor is required to pass the OSHA exam. To obtain information on whether a tradesman is licensed in Ohio, Commerce Division of Industrial Compliance.
